Avoid speeding for best motor insurance deals

Couriers

Car and van drivers in the UK who resist the temptation to speed on the roads will find they benefit from lower motor insurance premiums.

That is the view of comparison site Moneysupermarket.com, which conducted research on the subject and found there is a significant difference in the cost of cover for those with and without convictions.

Indeed, a driver with a black mark on their license due to excessive speed and up to six penalty points will pay an average of 19 per cent more for their UK insurance policy, the study concluded.

Peter Harrison, car insurance expert at the site, said: "Even going just above the speed limit can add huge additional costs to your car insurance - and for repeat offenders, some insurers may even refuse to cover you."

The Association of British Insurers recently told of another group in need of good quality cover – those planning a wedding, as protecting the big day can be a wise move.
