Fall in unpaid direct debits to charities

Charities

8th September 2010

The number of direct debit donations that are returned to charities in the UK without being paid declined during the second quarter of this year, new data reveal.

According to figures published by Bacs Payment Schemes, there was a year-on-year fall of almost seven per cent in the number of such incidents during the three months to June 2010, Creditman reports.

As the UK returns to growth in the wake of the recession, the Bacs report indicated that conditions are also improving for charities, with just one per cent of direct debit charitable giving now returned unpaid.

The firm's head of marketing, Mike Hutchinson, advocated offering a range of possible dates for donations, explaining: "When presenting potential payment options, charities need to consider that not everyone is paid at the same time."

Meanwhile, the government has announced the launch of the second wave of a poll of third sector organisations, something that may interest those seeking a UK insurance policy.

Bodies are being invited to submit their responses to the National Survey of Charities and Social Enterprises in order to develop a greater understanding of what the field's needs and concerns are.
