The bank estimates that six million drivers would like an Aston Martin, 3.8 million yearn to have a Jaguar and 3.7 million aspire to become BMW owners.

Filling out the top five were Audis and Mercedes-Benzs, followed by Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

One in five respondents to the survey predicted they would one day drive their dream motor, with two-thirds of these putting money aside to own it.

"Whilst the life of an international spy is probably a bit far from reality for most of us, the dream of a new car doesn't have to be out of reach," TSB loans director Evelyn Hamilton said.
