The Department of Health has released plans from the Conservative-Liberal Democrat government for the future of Britain's social care system.
According to the body, the strategy places "individuals and their families at its heart" and is intended to provide adults with sustainable support, something that may interest professionals in the field seeking a UK insurance policy.
Outlining the terms of reference for the new Commission on the Funding of Care and Support, the health secretary insisted that the entity will consider a range of options for provision in the future and will build on existing work completed on the issue.
Andrew Lansley explained to MPs in Parliament that the agency, which will be chaired by Andrew Dilnot, will produce a report on the subject within 12 months.
"In the next 20 years we estimate that 1.7 million more people will have a potential care need than today," he stated, adding that a fair funding scheme is needed that offers choice, value for money and is sustainable.
Head of Carers UK Imelda Redmond recently warned that the social services sector is under considerable strain at present, with many families forced to look after their relatives full time.
