Looking to eastern countries could benefit many businesses in the UK, it has been claimed.

This is the view expressed by a report from HSBC, which stated that the region offers a "new consumer audience" to companies.

According to the bank, rapid economic growth in the east means that its potential for companies to exploit opportunities is increasing, with international firms more likely to take this view.

Insurance for business customers may also be interested to learn that the organisation discovered only 14 per cent of businesses polled recognised that chances may be available in the region.

Noel Quinn, HSBC Commercial Banking UK group general manager, commented: "There needs to be a shift change in attitude as Asia and the Middle East become the brightest prospects on the global landscape."

Meanwhile, in the UK the government has established a new £1 billion fund to assist enterprises in parts of the country that will be most severely affected by cuts to public spending announced as part of the emergency Budget on June 22nd.
