Travellers 'should seek professional medical advice'

Before heading off for new climes, British travellers should raise any health concerns they may have with professionals.
This is the view of television doctor Pixie McKenna, who claims many people ask their friends, family and colleagues for advice before jetting off, but this can be unreliable.
"Sixty per cent of travellers will get traveller's diarrhoea, one in two of us will experience illness or injury when we travel at some point in our lives," she warned, adding: "None of us is immune."
Her remarks come after a campaign was launched aimed at dispelling medical myths that some Brits can take on holiday with them and may affect their health.
The 8 Weeks To Go initiative is flagging up wrongly-held beliefs such as friendly dogs don't carry rabies, while individuals seeking a UK insurance policy may also be interested to learn that there is little truth in the rumour that gin and tonic is not a good way to ensure you don't catch malaria.
