A new facility has been opened by the Environment Agency and will test products aimed at reducing flood damage.
This is according to a spokesman for the organisation, who explained effective devices will be marked with a British quality standard to better inform businesses and households who may wish to invest in them.
"We set up a massive fake house and tank and you can install flood products and have them tested with a simulator," he explained, adding the system can mimic the weights and volumes involved in real incidents.
Those seeking business insurance may also be interested in the spokesman's assertion that it is important to look at a range of ways to reduce risk - with government spending on defences being reviewed and post-flood management strategies assessed to determine ways in which they can be enhanced.
According to a recent report in the Engineer, the UK's infrastructure is facing a series of key challenges, with flood management needing to improved and public engagement increased in order to address and "set realistic expectations" about risk.
