Reminder tool 'may save motorists £767m'

A new tool that reminds people when their vehicle is due for an MOT may save UK drivers as much as £767 million per year.
This is based on figures indicating more than 767,000 people miss the compulsory test each year, with potential fines set at up to £1,000.
However, a failure to put a car through its annual MOT can also place the cover provided by a UK insurance policy in jeopardy as owners are required to keep vehicles in a roadworthy condition.
Several cars can be registered at once for the online Motor Codes reminder programme, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Director of the consumer group Chris Mason described it as "an easy to use solution to avoid a costly mistake or last minute rush caused by forgetting to book MOT and service work ".
Meanwhile, parents have been advised by the Motor Insurers' Bureau that 'fronting', where they insure vehicles under their names on behalf of their children, is illegal and could invalidate policies.
