Property professionals

Those working in the UK's property industry should co-operate in order to ensure the buying and selling processes for homes are improved.

According to the Building Societies Association, legal and conveyancing professionals, surveyors, consumer organisations and estate agents have expressed their desire for change from the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government.

The BSA believes by working together, the industry can reform the market and improve the system to benefit customers by putting more power in people's hands, providing greater value for money and providing better information.

Paul Broadhead, the body's head of mortgage policy, welcomed the move by the new government to scrap home information packs, adding: "Work must continue to ensure customers receive better value and an improved experience."

Specialists seeking a UK insurance policy in the field may also be interested in recent research by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors indicating Ireland and the US will see the highest rises in distressed property sales during the second quarter of 2010, while the UK has seen an increase in professionals predicting growth in this area.
