A decision by the new coalition government to establish a commission on long-term care has been welcomed by one expert.
Publishing its plans, the Conservative-Lib Dem administration highlighted the need to address the growing issue of how to look after elderly people, something that may interest liability insurance customers in the field.
Carers UK director of policy and public affairs Emily Holzhausen claimed the current system "is crumbling and the government has recognised the need for urgent action, with the commission reporting within a year".
She highlighted the need for additional funding in the sector and sustainable reform of current arrangements in order to prepare for the growing needs of an ageing population.
Ms Holzhausen added carers want to see an end to postcode lotteries and families crippled by high costs, while it is unclear what plans ministers have to provide additional support for those looking after others.
Commenting on the government plans, health secretary Andrew Lansley said they set out "a clear message to the NHS" about the coalition's intentions to reduce bureaucracy in the system and improve standards of care.
