Lighting 'key' to secure gardens

Ensuring that effective outdoor lighting systems are in place is key to protecting gardens from thieves.
This is according to Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine assistant editor Melanie Griffiths, who claimed an increasing number of people are carrying out work to improve the security of outdoor spaces.
As more people spend money enhancing their gardens, it becomes more important to protect their investments.
Ms Griffiths suggested: "Generally, a lot of self-builders are conscious of safety and they install gates and security lights."
She also pointed out that smart lighting systems are now available to make it appear that people are in the house and such technology can also be deployed in the garden.
Arranging a UK insurance policy for the home and its surroundings may be more important than ever as a recent survey by the Royal Institute of British Architects and Shelter discovered 73 per cent of property owners have a dream improvement project for their house.
