Misfuelling 'can cost over £5k to fix'

The cost of putting the wrong fuel in a vehicle can cost motorists in excess of £5,000 to put right.
A warning has been issued over the risk by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA), which has advised that those with diesel cars are most likely to make a misfuelling error.
However, the organisation points out that almost one in three insurance policies do not cover owners in the event of such a mistake and they may be forced to shoulder the costs themselves.
The recommendation to be vigilant when filling vehicles also highlights the need to check cover carefully, as there are an estimated 150,000 cases per year of misfuelling.
"It is important to speak to your insurance broker to arrange a fully comprehensive policy that covers these unexpected risks," the association's technical and corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill advised UK insurance policy holders.
The BIBA recently welcomed the implementation of new legislation from April 30th 2010, which will permit electronic motor insurance certificates to be issued, potentially saving almost 10,000 trees per year.
