What will a hung parliament mean for the road haulage industry?

Haulage

7th May 2010

The results of the 2010 general election mean certain sectors are unsure what the future holds - but the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has said it will be actively pressing the importance of the industry.

Haulage is still the main method of transport for moving goods in the UK and is therefore crucial to the country's economic recovery, the organisation said. But since the vote ended in a hung parliament, it is not clear which party will be responsible for short-term issues such as the increase in fuel duty and price stability.

Goods in transit insurance policyholders are also likely to be awaiting a decision from the political parties after none of them obtained a clear majority.

Whatever happens, the government needs to work with the RHA to maintain high standards and best practice in the sector.

"We look forward to engaging positively with them, helping achieve the economic regeneration that the UK economy needs," added chief executive Geoff Dunning.
