A total of £100 million worth of funding has been allocated to combat the growing problem of potholes.
The additional cash for roads maintenance in England, Scotland and Wales was announced by chancellor Alistair Darling as part of his 2010 Budget speech on March 24th.
Potholes can damage the tracking systems of vehicles, tyres and exhausts, potentially leading to motorists filing a claim under their UK insurance policy.
The extra funding will attempt to address substantial damage caused to highways by the ice and snow this winter, as the most severe weather in more than 30 years hit the UK.
Motorists have been complaining about the impact of potholes on their cars and the money will be allocated to local authorities to tackle the issue.
Recent research published by the Asphalt Industry Alliance indicated 80 per cent of councils saw bad damage to their roads during the winter months, resulting in a £400 million hole in maintenance budgets.
