Business start-ups 'should launch now'

Now is a good time to launch a new enterprise, before the economy recovers.

This is the assertion of entrepreneur Julie Meyer, who recommends budding business owners take their chance now, as independent firms are thriving.

Her comments follow figures from the Local Data Company indicating 11,000 more shops opened in 2009 than closed, 10,000 of which were independent ventures.

Additionally, the number of new retail, leisure and service companies opening during the 12 months rose by four per cent, something that may interest those seeking insurance for business.

According to Ms Meyer, "there's enormous new company creation and there's a lot of demand for start-up capital", with various parts of the economy operating at different speeds.

She added people have learned to be effective business managers at an earlier stage of their careers, with the downturn offering a good time to start an enterprise as the cost of setting up such a venture is lower than it will be when the market returns to strength.
