Toyota recall 'will not impact on insurance'

Personal insurance

17th February 2010

British Toyota vehicles currently involved in the company's product recall will not have their insurance cover affected.

Drivers have been advised by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) that any claims submitted by owners of Toyota models will have them treated no differently than any other applications, "in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy".

Meanwhile, any motorists refused cover by existing providers will be offered Toyota Insurance, after the Japanese carmaker was forced to recall specific models over concerns about faulty accelerator pedals.

"If they have not already done so, anyone who thinks they may be affected should contact their local Toyota dealer and follow their advice," the ABI advised in a statement.

Toyota has stated that it currently able to carry out the repairs, which take around half an hour to complete, at a rate of about 6,000 vehicles per day and centres across the UK are opening for longer each day to handle demand.
