Landlords are advised that the Department for Communities and Local Government has introduced additional protection for private tenants.
Under the changes, renters will be able to gain free practical advice through a housing hotline and a feedback website is being established to enable them to post reviews of their accommodation and landlord.
Announcing the regulations, housing minister John Healey explained that tenants will also be assisted by plans laid before parliament for written rental agreements to become a legal requirement and for a new National Landlords Register that will provide information on property owners.
"Every tenant should be confident in their decision to rent as well as be clear what to expect before they sign on the dotted line," he declared.
Additionally, those seeking insurance for buildings may be interested to learn that HM Treasury has published a consultation document about the future role of the private rented sector, including the part it will play in boosting housing supply and supporting the UK's economic recovery.
