Britons 'failing to protect holiday bookings'

More than one million people who book their annual holidays early are leaving themselves open to disappointment by failing to take out insurance.
A new study from Sainsbury's Finance discovered that 1.14 million of the 8.9 million individuals between 16 and 64 planning to secure a trip between Christmas and the end of February are not intending to purchase travel cover.
Many consumers attempt to banish the winter blues by booking a summer vacation at the start of the year and it is important to protect finances by paying for cover that will provide a refund if they are unable to travel as a result of illness.
"It's easy to forget to buy travel insurance during the excitement of booking your holiday," the firm's travel insurance manager Joanne Mallon remarked, noting that policies should be of "good quality" to deliver assistance overseas when needed and protection against cancellation.
Those taking winter sports holidays this year have also been advised to take out comprehensive insurance before setting off, as incidents on the slopes can cost thousands of pounds if no cover is in place.
