Work starts on major UK construction project

A government-funded building scheme is underway and is expected to create more than 5,000 construction sector jobs.
Part of a £1.5 million pledge by ministers made in June to deliver an additional 20,000 affordable homes in the UK, the largest council house construction project in almost two decades has commenced.
More than 2,000 local authority homes will be created under the Communities and Local Government programme in order to relieve pressure on waiting lists and housing minister John Healey has predicted that the move will "help councils tackle the housing needs of their communities".
He also revealed that he is preparing to launch a second round of funding for council properties to be built later this month.
Funding pledged by the government is intended to support local authority developments, provide assistance to housing associations and kickstart stalled projects, something that may interest those seeking liability insurance.
In December, Mr Healey revealed that a further £278 million is being made available for 5,000 new affordable properties to be built in Britain.
