Consumers are more likely to have a UK insurance policy for their property than they are against illness.
This is according to a new report, which revealed 71 per cent of respondents have cover for their home contents, compared with just 15 per cent who have taken out critical illness policies.
An independent poll carried out by Ipsos Mori for Scottish Provident discovered more Britons (23 per cent) have insurance for electrical goods than themselves.
Fewer than one in two of those questioned (44 per cent) had life cover, nine per cent had purchased income protection policies and five per cent were protected against unemployment.
Susan Barclay, Scottish Provident head of marketing, remarked: "It is great to see that people are taking out adequate insurance to cover the items in their homes
However, this should not be at the expense of personal cover."
In related news, Confused.com recently issued advice to homeowners to protect their homes against freezing weather this season by preventing pipes from bursting by lagging them and wrapping up outside taps.
