More than 13,000 third sector organisations have been helped by a government scheme, according to new figures.
The Cabinet Office data showed that grants provided by the Grassroots Grants initiative are benefiting communities across the UK.
Over £33 million has been allocated to small charities and voluntary groups with income below £30,000 in the first full year of the programme, which was launched in September 2008.
Projects that have received cash include social activities for carers and healthy food parcels for those in deprived areas, while a match-funding system has also been established to reinforce endowments from businesses and individuals around the country.
Minister for the third sector Angela Smith commented: "The programme is still open for applications and I encourage small local voluntary and community groups across the country to come forward and apply for this essential funding."
Charity insurance customers may be interested to note that the £130 million Grassroots Grants scheme will provide grants worth between £250 and £5,000 to successful applicants until 2011 through the Community Development Foundation.
