Advice issued over Christmas charity donations

Charities

2nd December 2009

With an 11 per cent dip recorded in the level of charitable giving in Britain during this year, the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has issued a series of recommendations to people planning to make donations this Christmas.

According to the organisation, taxpayers should tick the box for Gift Aid to ensure that their chosen cause receives an additional 28p for every pound, consider Give As You Earn donations from their salary or open a CAF Charity Account.

In addition, CAF advises purchasing Christmas presents from charity shops and giving them any unwanted items, considering gifts that provide assistance to third sector agencies, donating shares to voluntary groups and leaving a charitable legacy behind in a will.

Charities seeking a UK insurance policy may also be interested to learn that research published last month by Moneysupermarket.com revealed that over one in two people surveyed are still donating to the third sector in spite of the recession, but are being more careful about where there money goes.
