Firms urged to maintain heating systems

Insurance for buildings customers are advised to ensure that their heating equipment is kept properly maintained.
This is the recommendation of RSA, which claimed that companies can end up paying out thousands of pounds unnecessarily each year by using systems that are old or inefficient.
Updating such equipment can both save firms money and reduce their carbon footprint, with almost half of total UK energy consumption generated by buildings.
Energy audits provide information and recommendations about ways of enhancing the energy-efficiency of properties and the potential reduction in costs.
Alex Matthias, RSA's energy management leader, suggested that enterprises "could be wasting significant amounts of energy and money" and should examine equipment, as minor changes may make a substantial difference to both expenditure and carbon emissions.
Businesses are urged by Giles to ensure that they have sufficient cover to protect them against problems with heating systems and other equipment, particularly as the winter sets in.
