Holidaymakers advised to "snow before you go"

Those planning skiing trips this season should try out the sport before they head for the slopes, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), holidaymakers should "snow before you go" so that they "know about what you are getting into before heading onto the slopes".

Carl Christopher also advised skiers and snowboarders to wear helmets and plan carefully in order to avoid "unnecessary injuries", for example being aware of their skill and fitness levels.

He suggested checking policies in order to ascertain what rescue services are available as part of preparations and skiing in groups to protect against problems during a break.

In related news, travelers were recently advised to ensure that they have a European Health Insurance Card and also insurance that covers winter sports in case of injury, with accidents affecting both novice and experienced skiers and snowboarders.
