Travel insurance "crucial" for skiers this winter

Those planning to take skiing holidays this winter are reminded that it is "crucial" that they have travel insurance that includes sporting activities to cover any unexpected medical bills.
Travellers should ensure that they have the European Health Insurance Card, but should not solely rely on it exclusively, with three per cent of skiers and snowboarders surveyed planning to use it as their sole protection.
A poll by esure found that 50 per cent more Britons (2.8 million) are planning to go to the slopes this season, with injuries potentially costing the 12 per cent who are not taking out travel cover thousands of pounds.
Both novice and experienced winter sports participants can be affected when abroad, with 14 per cent of respondents having suffered an injury during a previous trip.
In related news, Direct Travel Insurance recently urged skiers and snowboarders to select the correct level of cover for their trips, including personal liability, piste closure, physiotherapy and medical air and ambulance provision.
