Homeowners in Britain are more afraid of burglary than anything else, new research has suggested.
A recent poll of more than 2,000 adults by Opinium Research discovered that two out of three (65 per cent) viewed this as the most significant threat to their property, but only around half have insurance policies in place to protect their domestic appliances against incidents.
The study, published by LV=, also revealed that Britons are more likely to be made redundant as a result of the recession than they are to be burgled, but only 37 per cent of homeowners have taken out cover for their mortgage repayments in case they lose their jobs.
Chris McFarlane, the firm's head of protection, remarked: "It's a concern that so many more people protect the bricks and mortar and their possessions, than protect the income they need to pay for their home and lifestyle."
The figures highlight the importance of taking out building and contents insurance and mortgage payment protection policies, with Your Mortgage editor Barney McCarthy suggesting that a home loan should be the highest priority for property owners.
