ABI launches publication to help public get right insurance

Personal insurance

14th October 2009

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has published a new document designed to help members of the public determine what personal insurance products are best for them.

Entitled People Need Financial Protection, the guide can be downloaded from the organisation's official website and outlines some of the options available to help ensure consumers have long-term financial security, which include life, critical illness and income protection insurance.

"We hope … to help individuals and families work out what insurance products are right for their needs," commented Stephen Haddrill, director general of the ABI, at this week's Savings, Assets and Protection in the UK conference.

The association also launched its Savings Manifesto, which features a number of ideas designed to improve pensions and savings.

Mr Haddrill pointed to research from the ABI that showed more than 40 per cent of people are either not saving anything for their retirement or are putting away too little.

New figures from Scottish Widows show that 59 per cent of men are saving adequately for when they retire, compared to 47 per cent of women.
