Travellers are increasingly indulging in adventure sports on holiday, which could affect their insurance premiums, new figures have revealed.
Taking part in "daredevil" pursuits, particularly on a whim, may invalidate cover and make claiming difficult, website moneysupermarket.com warned.
According to a survey by the company, people should consider the potential effects of activities such as white water rafting, canoeing and bungee jumping on insurance.
Although some people "may not give a second thought" as to whether they have cover for accidents and injury caused by extreme sports, 37 per cent of respondents have engaged in potentially dangerous activities on impulse while away, with men most likely to take risks.
Maxine Baker, the site's travel insurance manager, advised: "If there is any chance you might take part in extreme sporting activities while you are away, it is essential you speak to your insurer ahead of your trip."
Last month, the Association of British Insurers launched a new campaign aimed at tackling holiday insurance fraud and warning people of the potential risks of being dishonest when making claims.
