A new system that will speed up the process of making personal injury claims resulting from road accidents is a "significant step forward in helping victims of car accidents", it has been stated.
According to Michael Willis MP, deputy to the minister of the Ministry of Justice, the compensation scheme follows talks between relevant parties and will reduce the time taken for disputes to be resolved.
He explained that a broad agreement has been reached regarding the details of the new claims process, which will see time limits imposed on reaching settlements on personal injury claims with a value of £1,000 to £10,000.
Mediated by the Civil Justice Council, the initiative will also see caps placed on costs relating to less complex cases and will affect around 80 per cent of claims, the Association of British Insurers estimates.
In related news, a recent study by moneysupermarket.com discovered that 62 per cent of people in Britain believe that uninsured drivers should be subject to tougher penalties.
