A new helpline targeted at vulnerable workers has been launched by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Intended to protect the rights of employees, it will offer the opportunity to report abuses and seek help and advice about workplace issues such as the National Minimum Wage, employment agencies legislation, working time rules and gangmaster licensing.
Forming part of a new campaign that is intended to improve awareness of government regulations, the service brings together those previously offered by five government bodies.
Business minister Pat McFadden stated: "By consolidating the current complex system of different helplines for different issues into one single number we are making it easier for workers to report abuses and for government to respond."
Insurance for business customers are advised that the new Pay and Work Rights helpline can also be used as a point of contact by employers and it has been developed in collaboration with trade unions, bosses and enforcement agencies.
The Forum of Private Business recently released figures showing that many UK small firms are struggling to handle the growing burden of employment law.
