The construction industry is exploring the possibilities that are offered through the adoption of low-carbon practices, it has been claimed.

According to Federation of Master Builders director of external affairs Brian Berry, the recession has changed the sector and all the major political parties are now exploring ways of developing a greener built environment.

"Construction industries are looking ahead and looking to the future, thinking of ways in terms of their skill sets and the technology they are using," he remarked.

As the economy starts to recover, he predicted that new low-carbon opportunities will start to emerge and innovations will need to adapt to the changing business environment.

His comments come in the wake of an announcement by the government that it is conducting a review of the construction industry that will be led by the new chief construction adviser and will examine greener strategies for building.
