Confused.com has issued a warning to motorists regarding the effect drug-driving can have on car insurance costs.
The price comparison website suggested that drivers caught breaking the law in this manner will find it significantly more difficult to get a good deal on top of the potential legal issues such as being banned from the road and facing a prison term.
"A drug-driving offence on a licence will hit people's pockets by pushing up their premiums," the website's head of motor, Will Thomas, commented.
"Some insurance providers can more than double your premium following drug-driving related convictions, others won't quote at all."
The statement was issued in light of the new campaign from Transport for London and Think!, which focuses on drug-driving and the consequences involved.
According to Think!, a Department for Transport initiative, approximately 51 people are thought to have died in drug-related accidents on the UK's roads in 2006.
However, in that year, seven per cent of people still did not completely agree that it was dangerous to drive after consuming a class A drug.
