Brits 'opting for experiential trips'

British travellers are increasingly looking for holidays that offer them an experience and the option of "doing something adventurous", an expert has suggested.
Lynsey Devon, TUI Travel's adventure division activity sector PR manager, explained that "people went on holiday to lie on beaches" in the 1970s but they now "feel a lot more confident trying new things", wanting to "have an experience and then come back and tell everybody about it".
She pointed out that sailing and trekking breaks are proving most popular with customers, as well as less traditional trips that include things like "going to Nepal and helping with a home build".
Ms Devon was commenting after research by Mintel discovered that a fifth of British adults like to learn new skills when travelling overseas, while 11 per cent of respondents said that they had embraced a new sport or game while on holiday over the past three years.
Those choosing an experiential break should make sure that they purchase travel insurance that fully covers them for any activities they may participate in while they are away.
