Insurers' group warns about risk of driving without cover

7th September 2009

Drivers will be advised to Stay Insured via a new awareness campaign launched by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB).

According to the organisation, the risk of motorists choosing to take to the roads without cover has increased as a result of the recession.

However, the Stay Insured initiative is intended to highlight the risks involved with driving uninsured and the consequences if anything happens.

It will launch this month and follows an industry report indicating that the economic downturn may alter attitudes towards the practice both within the sector and among consumers.

MIB chairman Keith Morris will unveil the campaign and outline the study's findings, discussing ways in which the insurance industry is addressing the problem.

Based in Milton Keynes, the body was founded in 1946 and is intended to provide compensation to the victims of drivers who are uninsured or cannot be traced, with all underwriters of motor cover required to be a member and provide funding.
