Drivers advised to 'maintain motors at all times'

Personal insurance

7th August 2009

Motorists in the UK should ensure that their vehicles are "properly maintained at all times" and are regularly taken for servicing, one expert has claimed.

According to Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) press officer Alex Wells, owners could save money in the long-term by taking care of their car, something that may interest insurance customers.

He pointed out that large problems could be expensive to fix and stressed the importance of using a reliable garage for repairs, for example one that is a member of the RMIF.

The expert added that such a business "will be able to give [drivers] support and advice on keeping their car on the road and not costing them too much".

Commenting this week on new figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showing that new car sales have been boosted by the government's scrappage incentive scheme, RMIF director Sue Robinson said that it was having a "positive effect" on the whole sector.
