Rise 'in crime against businesses'

Levels of crime against firms in the UK have risen and better access to statistics is needed to tackle the problem, it has been claimed.
A spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) declared that "any" companies can be affected by crime, with many feeling that the response from police is inadequate, concerns that may affect those seeking insurance for business.
He explained that FSB data indicated that 64 per cent of enterprises have fallen victim to crime over the past year, up from 57 per cent in 2006, with many incidents going unreported "because of a lack of faith in the criminal justice system".
The FSB representative was commenting after recent figures from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) showed that almost 350,000 offences against companies could be identified from crimes reported by UK police forces during 2008-09.
BCC director of policy Adam Marshall suggested that crimes against businesses "worsen when times are tough" and called for more accurate statistics.
