Travellers 'should read insurance small print'

Travellers should ensure that they have read the small print of their insurance policies and are aware of their excess, an expert has advised.
According to Sharron Livingston, editor of the Travel Magazine website, holidaymakers should consider not packing valuable items or pieces of "great sentimental value" in luggage that is checked in, "but keep them close to hand".
She advised travellers to "take out travel insurance, keeping receipts as proof of purchase in case of loss or damage" and "note exactly" what their excess, the limits of claims and any exclusions are before setting off.
Ms Livingston was commenting on figures from the European commission, which showed that 32.8 million items of luggage were reported lost around the world in 2008, the equivalent of around one bag for every 64 passengers.
She welcomed the news that the commission is considering raising compensation levels for lost luggage and stressed the importance of insuring baggage in the meantime.
