Insurance for business seekers operating machinery such as drills should not take any short cuts when it comes to following procedures and putting protective measures in place, it has been suggested.
Sarah Palfreyman, a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector, stated that the rules need to be followed by employers, adding that there is no excuse for them not to do this given the extensive levels of guidance available from her organisation in relation to machinery guarding.
"Drill-related injuries are still all too frequent and companies need to ensure proper risk assessments are carried out on machinery," she added.
A similar warning was issued by the HSE at the end of last month, with inspector Warren Pennington saying it is vital that safety procedures are not only implemented at businesses, but that all staff members adhere to them.
He urged employers to "take their responsibilities seriously" in order to avoid future accidents.
