Small businesses 'need more export support'
Commercial insurance

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK need greater support to help them enter the export market, it has been claimed.
Stephen Alambritis, head of public affairs at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), suggested that Britain needs "commercial attaches in our embassies overseas to be better resourced" to provide help to smaller firms.
According to Mr Alambritis, the "government is doing its best" and the current rate of sterling is attractive for exports, but the number of commercial attaches at Britain's 240 embassies should be increased in order to improve SME access to export markets.
His comments follow a decision by the British Chambers of Commerce and UK Trade & Investment to collaborate on a campaign to encourage more businesses to start exporting goods, which may interest insurance for business customers.
Research from the two organisations indicated that businesses could be more proactive about exporting, as most do so because they have been approached by customers, have contacts overseas or have been asked to do so by an agent or distributor.
