Concern over effects of recession on youth charities

Youth charities are feeling pressure as a result of the recession, a new report has claimed.
Research by the Prince's Trust and the Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy at Cass Business School indicated that thousands of disadvantaged young people are being adversely affected by the downturn, with unemployment rates rising.
Many local youth services in deprived areas are in danger of being cut, despite their "immeasurable value" and the study warns that charities may struggle to meet demand.
Martina Milburn, chief executive of the Prince's Trust, stated: "We need to help young people into jobs - only with their ideas and creativity will we be able to pull ourselves out of the recession."
Over 450,000 under-25s in Britain are currently claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, a figure that has risen by more than 80 per cent over the past year.
Recent data published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development suggested that firms in Britain are planning to reduce the number of young people they are hiring.
