Headaches, backaches and sore necks are among some of the more common health complaints of the modern worker, new research has revealed.

According to a survey carried out by Redshift Research on behalf of Nurofen, two in five office workers complain of splitting headaches while on the job, with 34 per cent citing symptoms of an aching back.

A further 32 per cent claim to have sagging shoulders, while a sore neck accounts for 28 per cent of office workers' woes.

"The time spent slouched in front of the computer is leading to so-called 'computer curvature', while stress, headaches and assorted other aches and pains are also common," Dr Rosemary Leonard commented.

However, action can be taken to help alleviate some of these symptoms, Dr Leonard suggests gentle exercises and pain relief tablets for a short-term option.

Meanwhile, in recent news John Lacey, chairman of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Construction Group announced that the new Safety Schemes in Procurement Competence Forum could help businesses to prove their health and safety competence.
