Female landlords 'more sympathetic to tenants' needs'

Female landlords tend to have a different approach to their male counterparts and are believed to be more sensitive to the changing needs of tenants, a study has claimed.

According to the NLA (National Landlords Association) Property Women Awards, female landlords are more likely to spend more time and money on the aesthetics of their properties and pay more attention to details that make them more comfortable.

The poll of 500 women in property discovered that during a recession sympathetic landlords become more important and female property owners are less likely to delegate jobs to other people than male landlords.

Melissa Porter, an ambassador for the 2009 awards, said: "It's not a tired stereotype that women tend to be more understanding but that doesn't mean we're a walkover!"
Other prizes at the event include the NLA Green Property Woman Award and the NLA Young Property Woman Award for female landlords under the age of 30.

Meanwhile, the NLA has reported that a lack of mortgage financing is the biggest challenge currently facing landlords who are looking to increase their portfolios.
