New guidance from the Charity Commission will help registered social landlords (RSLs) who have been adversely affected by the economic downturn, it has been claimed.
Executive director of policy and effectiveness at the Charity Commission Rosie Chapman said the new information will allow charitable RSLs to receive practical advice.
As well as details of tax implications associated with the provision of affordable housing, the guidance also includes advice about the recently introduced requirement to report on public benefit.
Head of HM Revenue & Customs Charities Keith Moore commented: "The updated guidance recognises the scale of the changes in circumstances that have affected registered social landlords since the original guidance was issued."
The Charity Commission's recent stakeholder survey found that its perceived overall effectiveness as a body now has an average rating of 68 per cent - an increase of five per cent on when the research was first conducted three years ago.
The organisation also saw its rating for the quality of service delivery rise by seven per cent.
