People going on holiday have been advised to check their travel insurance policies before jetting off.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the spread of swine flu has highlighted the importance of travellers ensuring they have the appropriate cover.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesman for the organisation, said some travel insurance policies "will cover you if you cancel your travel arrangements due to the advice given by the government or other health agencies like the WHO not to travel to a particular country".
Last month, ABTA - The Travel Association advised against all non-essential travel to Mexico and urged package holiday customers to contact their tour operator to get the latest information about their itinerary.
The advice came after the director-general of the World Health Organisation raised the flu pandemic alert from phase three to four, indicating that a pandemic was imminent, but not inevitable.
He also recommended against closing borders or restricting international travel.
