Pendragon criticises scrappage scheme proposal
Motor trades

Britain's biggest car dealership Pendragon has criticised the government's plan to introduce a scrappage scheme that would reward motorists for trading in their old vehicles for more eco-friendly models.
Trevor Finn, chief executive of the company, said the move would make little difference to the car-buying appetite of the public, adding that the motor trade is already offering incentives, reports Reuters.
He expressed concern that the scheme would be half-funded by the automotive industry, which has seen its finances hit by the economic downturn.
Mr Finn told the news source: "Are the car manufacturers going to increase over and above their current incentives? It is very difficult to see how thatcurlys going to happen."
Recently, it was announced that the New Car Code of Practice is to be brought into the Motor Codes in an attempt to increase consumer protection.
Advertising, sales and manufacturers' warranties and the availability of spare parts are all covered by the code.
