Sales of eco-friendly homes are not being affected by the downturn in the property market as badly as other types of houses, it has been claimed.

According to GreenMoves, a specialist adviser on buying and selling green homes, growing interest in alternatives to traditional properties has strengthened the market for sustainable houses.

Julian Brooks, managing director of the company, commented: "[Demand] is still there and is slightly insulated from the problems that conventional house builder products have, in terms of trying to get sales."

In his recent Budget announcement, chancellor Alistair Darling pledged £100 million of government money to help local authorities build new energy-efficient homes.

As part of a package of measures worth more than £1.4 billion, Mr Darling also promised funding for small-scale, low-carbon energy projects.

Meanwhile, the Renewable Energy Association claims that the UK is allocating far less funds to the sustainable energy sector than many other countries.ADNFCR-1854-ID-19141705-ADNFCR
