Companies should have back-up systems in place so they can quickly regain access to important data in the event of an internet outage, it has been claimed.
According to Tony Neate, managing director of the Get Safe Online campaign, as firms are relying increasingly on the internet, they should look into cloud computing and software-as-a-service to help protect important information should something go wrong.
"It's very important to make sure your back-ups are good and you have something in place [in case] the internet fails," he commented.
A recent survey of 100 IT decision-makers in the UK by BakBone Software found that 20 per cent of respondents said their business could not operate normally if their corporate data is inaccessible for more than one hour.
This figure increases to 37 per cent for the financial industry where many companies are heavily reliant on electronic information to operate.
