PFRA: Observer will improve standards
Charities
7th April 2009
The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) has appointed a former Concern Worldwide manager to help improve standards in face-to-face fundraising.
Nick Henry, who managed fundraising teams at the international development charity, will also respond to complaints from members of the public or local authorities, reports Third Sector.
PFRA chief executive Mick Aldridge remarked: "He may be watching from behind his newspaper, but there will also be more overt monitoring, where he'll tell fundraisers he is going to observe their activity."
Each year, agencies will also be used to report on as many as 400 encounters with face-to-face fundraisers.
The PFRA is the UK's recognised self-regulatory body for all types of face-to-face fundraising, including those who seek direct debit commitments for charities in the street and on household doorsteps.
It promotes the standards set out in the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice for Face-to-Face Activity.
