Construction output 'to fall further'

The construction industry will see a fall of 12 per cent in output this year, an organisation has warned.
According to the Construction Products Association (CPA) - which represents the manufacturers and suppliers of construction products, fittings and components in the UK - the current downturn is the most serious experienced by most people working in the industry.
Noble Francis, economics director at the CPA, said that any upturn would be dependent on a rise in the availability of credit in the private sector.
"We have already lost 60,000 jobs with more expected to follow and an estimated 12,000 construction workers on short-time working," he commented.
In related news, contractors have been warned about the dangers of allowing building sites to be used as sleeping accommodation.
The warning comes after the prosecution of an employer for letting five migrant workers from Poland sleep on-site.
