Landlords and tenants have been advised about the dangers of potentially dangerous gas installations in domestic properties.
The warning came following the prosecution of Sandeep Rajput, the manager of administrative matters regarding properties in Smethwick.
An investigation was launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after two tenants began to experience symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning.
Pam Folson, an HSE investigating inspector, said that appropriate action will be taken against landlords who disregard the safety of their tenants, adding that gas appliances must have a current Landlord Gas Safety Certificate.
"On average 20 people are killed every year because of faulty gas appliances, if gas appliances are not maintained, people die, it is fortunate that the tenants had noticed problems and acted swiftly," she commented.
In related news, a landlord in Cambridgeshire has been put on notice to ensure gas appliances in one of his properties are properly maintained.
Ajay Ahuja was prosecuted for failing to comply with an Improvement Notice.
